Clay, a retired cop, loves the way his girlfriend Lana looks but thinks of her as an empty-headed dingbat. When the two attend a party at his cousin's house, their conflicts and incompatibilities result in tragedy.
“Lana, did you fall the fuck in the toilet, baby?” Clay leaned forward in the chair, turning to look into the hallway.
“I’m coming! I’m here!” She almost skipped into the room, spinning around in front of him and spreading out the folds of her dress.
Clay chuckled and stood, slipping an arm around her. She did look pretty. Shit, who was he to complain? It wasn’t the first rodeo for either of them, and Lana was a helluva lot better looking than some women he’d met. He made to tighten his tie, but she hurried to do it for him. She touched him shyly, almost like a timid teenager, not a woman who’d been married before and had grown kids. Impulsively, he kissed her hand, strode to the door, and held it open.
