In the world of Aldar, Lucan leads a group of warriors to battle the Conjurer that threatened Tavis and Amber in Bound by Magic. With the eminent approach of the coming battle, Lucan and Kira discover something shocking about themselves and their relationship. Fate has given them a gift. Will Lucan embrace Kira and his fate? Or continue to deny what is in his heart?
Inside the Great Hall, warriors and Elders of Aldar exited the council room. Their voices carried through the massive passage as they conversed about the topics that had been discussed. Heavy-booted steps pounded along the pristine black marble tile, creating an echo in the high-ceiling corridor. The walls glittered and sparkled with color as the beautiful rays of the sun shone through the long narrow windows lining each end of the hall. Carefully handcrafted, the walls held shards of crystals reflecting the brilliant colors of the sky.
Kira stomped after Lucan, anger boiling inside her. After the meeting Lucan had strode to the door, and Kira assumed he was ignoring her to avoid her wrath. She was not about to let him get away from her, however. Without a word, she reached his side and grabbed his arm. Finding an opened door, she peered inside to see the room unoccupied. None too gently, she pushed him in and slammed the door.
Her heart pounded. She clenched her fists at her side, trying to contain the urge to strike out at Lucan for his lack of faith in her abilities. “Why, Lucan?” Kira yelled. “I’m good enough to spread my legs for you but not to stand by your side in battle? I am a warrior. How can you think to deny me this?”
They’d just learned the incident with Tavis and Amber had not been isolated as they’d hoped. Until they devised a plan to lure away the Conjurer, two warriors had been sent to guard Amber’s home, watching for any further threat. The amount of corrupted magic they sensed in the air could only mean the Conjurer had summoned more of his kind.
Tavis and Amber had just soul bonded. They were two of the Chosen. The two together siphoned the magic, sustaining the realm of Aldar with the overabundance of Earth’s magic. Shortly after they had bonded, they’d been kidnapped by a Conjurer.
“Damn it, Kira, you’ve never been in battle before. This is not one Conjurer we are facing. The last time we battled them, lives were lost,” Lucan gritted out between clenched teeth.
“I know I have never been in battle, but that does not mean I am ill prepared,” Kira shot back at him. She couldn’t understand how Lucan justified being so stubborn on this issue. He’d stood right in front of the Elders and left her name out of the faction he would lead to battle, denying her right to protect her people. She was a warrior and had every right to be part of it. She’d struggled and fought hard to be where she was today. Now, Lucan had stripped her of her chance. Why? He’d never treated her any differently than the other male warriors.
